Why and when do I have to provide my Social Insurance Number (SIN)?

Providing your Social Insurance Number (SIN) allows Job Bank to create a safer environment for job seekers and employers by making sure only real individuals post and apply for jobs.

By entering your SIN, Job Bank can:

  • verify your identity;
  • confirm that you are a Canadian citizen or a permanent resident;
  • ensure that you register as a user only once with Job Bank.

Job Bank makes sure to preserve confidentiality of users. SINs are not kept on file and Job Bank officers do not see them. Job Bank's use of the SIN is collected in accordance with the Department of Employment and Social Development Act and the Privacy Act.
