Why and when do I have to provide my Social Insurance Number (SIN)?

You need a Social Insurance Number (SIN) to access some of Job Bank's tools and services. The use of the SIN helps us provide a safer environment for job seekers and employers.

Your SIN will not be used, retained or shared for any other purpose. SINs are not kept on file and Job Bank officers do not see them.

 

Your SIN allows Job Bank to:

  • verify your identity
  • make sure that you only create one user account on Job Bank
  • confirm that you’re a Canadian citizen, a permanent or a temporary resident
